I met Stephanie through a women’s networking group. (One I highly recommend, so if you would like to join me to check out this highly unique, uplifting, relationship-focussed group of fun ladies, let me know! You don’t even need to be in business to be a part of the group!!). I was right away taken with Stephanie’s bubbly and positive personality and impressed with her drive to help people who have experienced problems with sensitive skin and health issues. I believe that Stephanie’s unrelenting positive spirit and the story of her struggle to overcome her issues with Psoriasis, inflammation, and food sensitivities is a powerful catalyst for hope to others who have struggled with similar issues, and I’m not alone in that belief. Stephanie has been published in a new book along with other women with powerful stories. Pick up a copy of Elevate your Voice by April Adams Pertuis and other inspiring women here.
Stephanie shared her story with me, starting with her experiences in Jr. High. Remember Jr. High? When kids seemed to be the most cruel and the only thing that seemed to matter was fitting in? It was in the midst of this emotional powder keg of adolescence that Stephanie began to really struggle with her skin health. She was so self conscious about her skin issues, that she avoided suiting out in P.E. around the other girls. She shared that she would sneak over and go into the restroom to change while the rest of the girls changed in the locker room to hide the psoriasis on her arms, legs and body. The psoriasis caused her so much discomfort, that she couldn’t stop herself from clawing at the skin and she would sit on her hands to try and stop from relentlessly scratching it. You can imaging how this impacted her self image at such a critical stage in her development. The amazing thing is, it didn’t destroy her. Stephanie is a strong and positive woman with an amazing ability to persevere through to success. Stephanie says that her secret weapon to getting through hard things is her positive self talk. Hey, when no one else gives you a pep talk, give one to yourself, right? I asked her what she would tell her 8th grade self today, and she said, “I would tell her thank you for not quitting and for never giving up.” And that’s what she wants to tell you. Never quit. Never give up. Keep searching for solutions. Keep striving.
